noodles for two

On our second nite in Kyoto, we went on a short search for what was billed as Japan's fattest Udon noodle, in a restaurant looking out over the remnants of the old Imperial garden not to far from our hotel. Despite the guide book recommending one make reservations, which I tried my best to do ... the restaurant was totally empty. Which didn't really matter because we were seated in our own room anyway, with a little bell, to call nimble kimono clad waitresses. We ordered 'noodle & vegetable hot pot' for two, a great simmering pot of everything imaginable. Why the vegetable, or even the noodles get special mention over the 2 types of fish and (atleast) 4 kinds of meat that all shared the pot, remains a mystery, if not necessarily a surprise.
