Its edamame season in Japan ! I didn't know there was such a thing, but as corn and plump gorgeous peaches are beginning to appear at the grocery so to are fresh edamame, often still on the stem. I guess its perfectly logical, every bean must have its season, I just have never looked for edamame outside the frozen food section. Apparently they are available all summer though I was told, they get 'a little tough' towards the end of the season. Right now they are so good, noticeably different from the frozen ones, with a rich nutty flavor, kind of like a cross between an avocado and an almond.
