For a sacred island, Enoshima can disappoint at first. The walk up to the island is lined by somewhat bleak blacksand beach, and busy roads. Seemingly incongruent greco-italian day spas wait on the other side. But after climbing and climbing steps past temples, stores full of random tourist junk, (shells of the world anyone ?) noodle shops and enticing fresh cookie stands, to the far side of the island we were treated to a rare fine view of the ocean.
