On Saturday O and I went on a very succesful day trip to not so far away Kamakura. This was my second visit to Kamakura, (O's first), and not quite intentionally we ended up visiting entirely different sites. We did a great hike from a smaller town over the ridge, past the money washing shrine, and picking up the trail again, where Kerry and I had failed to do so previously, up into the Cyrptomeria (Japanese Cedar!) forest past a mysterious and dark shrine, guarded by dozens of stone and porcelain foxes. The walk is surprisingly rugged and wild, considering it is only an hour outside of Tokyo. Saturday, like most days now, was very hot, and the forest was no exception. It was the kind of heat where sweat does not evaporate but just hangs in the air with the rest of the humidity.
