I went to the fireworks on Saturday on the grassy banks of a midsize river in eastern Tokyo. O was double booked with a company bbq, but he made it just in time for the finale and to accompany me on the long train ride home. (bless him) It was a wonderfully festive scene with girls and boys, specially the teenagers, looking fine in their summer kimono or yukatas. Another charming rookie suprise. (next time I shall take my real camera) Having staked out our spot with a requisite blue tarp, we lounged in the sun sipping our beer and waiting for the show. I never thought of fire works as flowers before, but it's so obvious they look just like giant chrysanthemum.
