Green Tea and Japanese sweet

We stayed in Tokyo for a change this weekend and tried to find a few new favorite havens in town. In Primrose Hill we were so spoilt for parks, with Regents park on our doorstep, and Hampstead Heath about 20 minutes walk away - we became, park people. Well pub & park people. They do parks really really well in London. They do gardens really really well in Japan, but that is not exactly the same as a park. Still we headed over to Shinjuku to do some shopping and spent a few pleasant hours strolling & lounging in the garden there. The strolling and lounging greatly aided by a recent drop in temperature by a few crucial degrees. In fact as we were commenting on how lovely the weather was I saw a thermometer reading 31 C (89 F). Delightful ! But compared to the last months, it feels downright autumnal. We stopped at a tea house at the park that has previously caught my eye. After purchasing a ticket from a vending machine you pass through the sliding doors of an austere wooden building to be served very green tea and perplexing sweet (with suspended beans) by a woman in a kimono with a flair for dramatic bows. So Tokyo that vending machine, that odd mix. You can leave your shoes on at this one, but apparently decorum dictates you leave your Starbucks outside.
