Last weekend we went on a ambitious weekend trip to Himeji Castle, as well as the cool little town of Kurashiki, famous for its Edo-era rice warehouses, where we spent the night and then on to Korakoen in Okayama, one of the three most famous gardens in Japan. Himeji Castle (featured in Akira Kurasawa's 'Ran' as well as perhaps the least enlightened James Bond film ever - which is some going - 'You Only Live Twice ') is very impressive. January and February seem like the best time to sight see in Japan, after the frenzy of the New Years travel season all the sights are really quiet, and we were able to wander the castle grounds in relative solitude. Though I'll admit the garden probably wasn't at its peak. We had an excellent time, it was great to check out some entirely new places, we really haven't done that for awhile. But oddly enough I just cant think of all that much to tell you. It pretty much all went off with out a hitch ! We ate a lot of noodle soup though.
