richmond deer park

photos from O's blackberry

Richmond Deer Park is big and old and has deer. 2,500 acres "with royal connections dating back to Edward (1272-1307)" & about 600 deer that make a distinct impact on the landscape. There are crisscrossing well grazed paths across what feels like vast grassland. ( the deer eat the tree saplings you see ) Many of the trees you do see there are ancient, like nearly 400 years old, and cut imposing gnarled silhouettes against the sky. The park is a short drive from our west London digs. And as Taid & Granmags have lent us their car we have been able to drive over twice now - even quite late in the afternoon after a day spent at the hospital - for a much needed change of scenery.
