Nice shiny ball outside of the Tokyo Metropolitain Art Museum in Ueno Park, but where are the Bonsai trees ? Though Ueno Park does not get very good reviews in the guide book, I headed there for the 80th annual Bonsai Exhibition, which apparently began in and around the museum today. Actually, despite the tepid writeup, I was very charmed by Ueno Park which is north east of the city. It feels pretty expansive, there are bright kiosks, museums, street muscians, loads of interesting shrines and temples. And I thought, home to the worlds most renowned Bonsai exhibition. Now of course Bonsai are small, so maybe I missed them, but I was excited by the promise of vendors stalls lining the paths around the museum displaying any and everything to do with Bonsai. Did I dream this ? Back home now, yes I was at the right museum. I dont know where the Bonsai were, but I also have no idea where I got this notion of a Bonsai Bazaar. My journey did not go unrewarded though as I found a small but fabulous garden dedicated to Peonies.
